THE
MAHABHARATA
Sage Vyasa who compiled the vedas also gave the epic poem Mahabharata
to the world. The Mahabharata is a divine work recounting deed of
godlike heroes of the golden age of India. The epic has a message for
mankind which is of far greater importance than its story.
It portrays to man his own lower self with all its earthly problems,
as well as its self with its divine glory. It explains how to merge
the small self with the greater self to bring about the union of man
and God. The central story describes the rivalry of two branches of
royal family the Kauravas and Pandavas and the ultimate battle between
the two on the battle field of Krukshetra.

The kernel of the great epic is the Bhagavad Gita which contains
Krishna sermon to Arjuna. Krishna represents the supreme self while
Arjuna represents one whose higher self is yet to be revealed. The
Mahabharata dramatizes the perennial cosmic drama where man and woman
are enacting roles in the conflicts of life, and how these very
conflicts can be resolved by realising your self.
